Surroundings
Hotel Stayen is located right in the heart of Haspengouw, making it ideal for discovering this beautiful region. Take a bike or your best walking shoes and get out there. The rolling landscape will quickly charm you. No stress about getting off on the right foot, because as soon as you leave Stayen Hotel you are immediately on a number of walking and cycling routes. Besides our own shopping centre, you can also find numerous other shops in the vicinity of the hotel, such as a pharmacy, snack bar, bakery and so on. Sint-Truiden's Grote Markt is 20 minutes away and the railway station 10 minutes on foot.
You can also do various activities in Sint-Truiden itself. There are cultural attractions such as the abbey tower, the Lady’s Church and the Sint-Agnesbegijnhof. Prefer a bit more savoury entertainment? Then be sure to visit the Wilderen brewery and be surprised by the beauty of the restored building, the hospitality of the owners and, of course, all the goodies they make there. Finally, would you like to be surprised by some natural art? Then head towards Helshoven and visit the floating chapel, or drive towards Borgloon and discover the see-through church.
In the wider area, you can always go shopping in Hasselt, fill your green lungs in Bokrijk or let your dancing legs loose in the vibrant nightlife of Liège. All are around 30 minutes' drive from Stayen.
Environmentally friendly
Why are the windows closed in our hotel rooms?
All our hotel rooms use the Mitsubishi Electric City Multi VRF air conditioning system. This system is based on the principle of an air source heat pump. It provides heating and cooling as needed, using heat recovered through the R2 system, which is an efficient use of energy.
How does it work?
Warm air is extracted from the rooms that need to be cooled and this energy is used to heat other rooms that require a higher temperature. The windows must be closed for our hotel air conditioning system to recover the warm air. Extra fresh air is added via controlled external roof fans.
Hotelrooms
All our hotel rooms are air-conditioned, so that our visitors can set the temperature to their own liking. This air conditioning is state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly and energy efficient. The fan on the inside provides a constant flow of fresh air. To balance the temperature we have to keep the windows closed.
Why is the toilet water colored (sometimes)?
At Stayen, rainwater is collected and reused to flush the toilets. Our new artificial grass field no longer contains rubber crumbs, these have been replaced by cork. The reused rainwater may contain small cork residues. This cork can discolour and that is why the toilet water sometimes colour.
Other actions for a 'green and ecological' Stayen
• At Stayen we want to develop a positive indoor climate. That is why we use natural micro-organisms instead of harsh chemical products. These positive organisms are placed in the building to safely and effectively clean up the visible and invisible pollution. In this way we continue to create a healthy indoor climate. We work with the company BioOrg and use different product ranges to clean all interiors. Uni products: for general cleaning. Deep-clean products: for sanitary cleaning. The hotel rooms and areas are biologically tested every 6 months in collaboration with the University of Ghent for compliance with the best ecological practices and Wellness Principles.
• LED lights illuminate the football field and the huge stadium spotlights, further contributing to a huge reduction in CO2 emissions.
• Motion sensors are fitted throughout the building to control lighting, meaning that if there is no local activity, no lights are on and energy is wasted.
• We ask our hotel guests to leave towels on the bathroom floor if they want them replaced and washed. We encourage our visitors to reuse their towels where possible.
• Reclaimed rainwater is filtered and used in the laundry, in accordance with the Stayen policy for implementing best environmental practices.
